Updating

When a newer release exists, Apathia tells you in the app. You install that release yourself.

Note

The in-app notice ships with the release. It is not in the app yet. Download links and the image name below are placeholders, coming with the release. Until the release is published, check Downloads and the release notes.

Back up data/ before you update. It holds the account, encrypted exchange keys, and the keys that decrypt them. Keep that folder, and keep any config next to the app (.env if you created one).

If a release changes stored data formats, the release notes say so. Stop, delete data/, and start fresh.

Docker

Open a terminal in the folder that contains docker-compose.yml (the unzipped Docker bundle).

docker compose pull && docker compose up -d --force-recreate

That is the whole update: pull the image, then recreate the container. data/ stays in that folder. The new container uses the same folder.

On Windows, the same line works in Command Prompt:

docker compose pull && docker compose up -d --force-recreate

Docker Desktop has to be running on Windows and Mac. On Linux, a Pi, or a VPS, Docker Engine has to be running.

Wait until docker compose ps shows healthy, then open the same address you used before. On your own computer that is http://localhost:8000. On a VPS it is still the SSH tunnel.

The image name in .env is a placeholder until the release notes replace it (placeholder.apathia.app/apathia:latest). Pull uses the name in .env.

Native

Quit Apathia. Close its window, or stop the process you started in the terminal.

Download the new package for the same computer and the same architecture from Downloads. Native is (recommended) on desktop Windows and Mac. On Linux, a VM or VPS, and a Raspberry Pi, Docker is (recommended); use the native package here only if that is how you installed.

Unpack the new zip or archive into a temporary folder. Copy the new program file over the old one:

  • Windows: apathia.exe
  • Mac and Linux: apathia

Leave data/ where it is. Leave .env where it is. Replacing the whole install folder can delete them, so copy the program file only.

Start Apathia the same way you did the first time. The steps are on the install page for that computer: Windows, Mac, Linux, Raspberry Pi, VPS / VM.

Open the same address as before.
