Install on Linux¶
On Linux, Docker is (recommended). The native package is the other option. This page is a Linux computer you use directly. A Raspberry Pi and a VPS or VM have their own pages. Both options open the UI at http://localhost:8000 on that computer.
Note
Download links and the image name on this page are placeholders. They are coming with the release. They are not files you can install today. The list is on Downloads.
Warning
A 32-bit system will not work. uname -m must print x86_64 or aarch64.
If this computer is reachable from the internet, leave port 8000 closed and use the private UI steps on the VPS / VM page.
Use one empty folder for the option you pick. The first start creates data/ in that folder. Back up data/. See Back up your data.
Docker (recommended)¶
1. Check the system¶
uname -m
x86_64 is 64-bit Intel/AMD. aarch64 is 64-bit ARM. Any other reply is unsupported.
2. Install Docker Engine¶
Install Docker Engine and the Compose plugin from Docker's instructions. Follow Install using the apt repository on the page for your system, and include the docker-compose-plugin package in that install:
When docker version says permission denied, follow Linux post-install so your user can run Docker, then log out and back in.
Both commands should print a version:
docker version
docker compose version
docker compose is two words. That is the Compose plugin.
3. Download the bundle¶
Download apathia-docker.zip (placeholder, coming with the release).
mkdir -p ~/apathia-docker
unzip ~/Downloads/apathia-docker.zip -d ~/apathia-docker
cd ~/apathia-docker
If unzip is not found: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install -y unzip, then run the unpack again.
You are in the right folder when ls shows docker-compose.yml.
Write the image name. This name is a placeholder, coming with the release:
cat > .env <<'ENV'
APATHIA_IMAGE=placeholder.apathia.app/apathia:latest
ENV
4. Start Apathia¶
docker compose pull
docker compose up -d
-d runs Apathia in the background, so it keeps going after you close the terminal. The first pull takes a few minutes. Wait until docker compose ps shows healthy.
Open http://localhost:8000.
Native¶
1. Download¶
x86_64: apathia-linux-x64.tar.gz (placeholder, coming with the release).
aarch64: apathia-linux-arm64.tar.gz (placeholder, coming with the release).
2. Unpack¶
x86_64:
mkdir -p ~/apathia
tar -xzf ~/Downloads/apathia-linux-x64.tar.gz -C ~/apathia
cd ~/apathia
chmod +x apathia
On aarch64, use apathia-linux-arm64.tar.gz in that tar line.
You are in the right folder when ls shows apathia. If the archive unpacked into a nested folder, cd into the folder that contains apathia.
3. Start Apathia¶
./apathia
Leave this window open. Closing it stops Apathia.
When the app is up, open http://localhost:8000.
Next¶
Create your account, then an exchange, a pair, and a strategy. Continue in Getting started.
A later release is installed by hand. See Updating.
