Ichimoku TK Cross (Kijun exit)

What it does: Buys when Ichimoku's fast line crosses above its slow line, and exits below the slow line. Ichimoku uses two midlines: the Tenkan (middle of the last 9 candles' range) and the Kijun (middle of the last 26). This buys when the Tenkan crosses above the Kijun and the price is higher than 25 candles ago.

Style: Trend · Difficulty: Intermediate · Risk: medium · Ready: 3 of 3 variants

When people use it: It tends to work in trending markets.

Where it struggles: It struggles in sideways markets, and its signals come late.

Markets it was written for: BTC, ETH, majors. Timeframes: 1d or 4h.

Open it in the Strategy Library (on the Strategies page), pick a variant, adjust the settings and press Add to my strategies. It becomes your own strategy: edit, backtest or trade it like any other.

Settings

Setting Default Editable What changing it does
Tenkan length 9 Yes (sets 2 fields) The fast midline. Shorter reacts sooner (more crosses, more false signals); longer is calmer.
Kijun length 26 Yes (sets 4 fields) The slow midline, used for both the entry cross and the exit. Shorter gives earlier, more frequent signals and exits; longer gives fewer, later ones.
Stop-loss % 10 Yes Closes the trade if the price moves this far against your entry. Tighter limits each loss but gets hit more often by normal swings; wider gives the trade more room but each losing trade costs more. If you use leverage, keep it well inside your liquidation distance.

How it works (as shown in the app)

  • Ichimoku uses two midlines: the Tenkan (middle of the last 9 candles' range) and the Kijun (middle of the last 26). This buys when the Tenkan crosses above the Kijun and the price is higher than 25 candles ago.
  • It sells when the price closes below the Kijun, or at the stop-loss. Tenkan, Kijun and Senkou B are each the midpoint of the highest high and lowest low over their length. The cloud (Senkou A and B) is drawn 26 candles ahead, so the cloud you trade against at any candle was set 25 candles earlier.
  • It tends to work in trending markets.
  • It struggles in sideways markets, and its signals come late.
  • Built for daily or 4-hour candles.

Long with optional cloud gate

Buys when Ichimoku's fast line crosses above its slow line, and exits below the slow line.

Labels: Trend Following, Long, Spot, Intermediate, Slow

  • Direction: Buy (long) · Market: spot
  • Trigger: On candle close · Main timeframe: Auto (1d)

Entry

  • IF ICHI(9,26,52) Tenkan crosses above ICHI(9,26,52) Kijun (1d) and ROC(25) > 0 (1d) and Price > ICHI(9,26,52) Senkou A (cloud) (1d) and Price > ICHI(9,26,52) Senkou B (cloud) (1d)

Exit: Indicator-Based Exit

  • IF Price crosses below ICHI(9,26,52) Kijun (1d)
  • Loss controls: Stop-loss % 10%

Setting Default Editable What changing it does
Tenkan length 9 Yes (sets 5 fields) The fast midline. Shorter reacts sooner (more crosses, more false signals); longer is calmer.
Kijun length 26 Yes (sets 5 fields) The slow midline, used for the entry cross, the exit and the cloud (it also sets how far the cloud is shifted forward). Shorter gives earlier, more frequent signals and exits; longer gives fewer, later ones.
Senkou B length 52 Yes (sets 5 fields) How many candles the slower cloud line looks back. Longer makes the cloud thicker and slower to change, so the above-the-cloud filter lets fewer trades through.

This buys when the Tenkan crosses above the Kijun, the price is higher than 25 candles ago, and the price is above the Ichimoku cloud.
  • It sells when the price closes below the Kijun, or at the stop-loss. It uses Apathia's built-in Ichimoku indicator.
  • It tends to work in trending markets.
  • It struggles in sideways markets, and its signals come late.
  • Built for daily or 4-hour candles.
  • This version also requires the price to be above the Ichimoku cloud. That makes it pickier: fewer trades, and it can skip the early part of a new trend.

Short (perp)

Shorts when Ichimoku's fast line crosses below its slow line; closes above the slow line.

How it works (as shown in the app)

  • Ichimoku uses two midlines: the Tenkan (middle of the last 9 candles' range) and the Kijun (middle of the last 26). This shorts when the Tenkan crosses below the Kijun and the price is lower than 25 candles ago.
  • It buys back when the price closes above the Kijun, or at the stop-loss. Tenkan, Kijun and Senkou B are each the midpoint of the highest high and lowest low over their length. The cloud (Senkou A and B) is drawn 26 candles ahead, so the cloud you trade against at any candle was set 25 candles earlier.
  • It tends to work in downtrending markets.
  • It struggles in sideways markets, and its signals come late.
  • Built for daily or 4-hour candles.
  • Shorting means you profit if the price falls and lose if it rises.
  • Suggested leverage is at most 3x. On isolated margin, at 3x the exchange closes the position (liquidation) if the price moves about 33% against you, and you lose the margin you put into it. Keep your stop well inside that.
  • For now this version runs in backtests only; paper and live futures trading are coming later.

Warnings

  • "Backtest only for now: paper and live trading of shorts are coming later.": shown on short variants. They need perpetual or futures pairs.
  • Some variants suggest leverage. On isolated margin a liquidation loses the margin in that position; keep any stop well inside the liquidation distance (the Trade Builder warns you when it isn't).
  • Once added, the strategy's conditions get the usual condition checks. Messages show under each condition on the entry / exit conditions screen; setting errors start with the indicator's short name (for example "MACD: Fast must be between 1 and 1000") and block saving, while the other warnings never block saving and repeat in the strategy's Entry or Exit section. See the indicator pages below for each one.
  • "You already have this strategy with these settings (…). Change a setting to add another copy.": shown on the variant's page in the Strategy Library when you already added this variant with the same settings.

Good to know

  • After you add it, the strategy keeps the library's trigger and an Auto main timeframe; you can change both in the builder. Nothing links it back to the library, except that the builder still shows the library's explanations in the info bubbles.
  • Changing a setting before adding it also changes the saved name, so you can tell copies apart.
  • Past results don't predict future ones. Try it in a backtest and on paper before using real money.
  • Indicators used: Donchian Channels, ICHI, ROC.
