Email (SMTP)

Sends alerts by email through a mail server you can use (SMTP). For Gmail and most other providers, use an app password, not your normal password.

Settings → Signal Notification Accounts → Email (SMTP). The same page has Telegram, Discord, and a Generic Webhook.

A signal with Email checked sends each alert to every email account you have saved. The subject is Apathia Signal. The body is the same alert the other types send, for example "ENTRY long · okx BTC/USDT 64,210 (touch) · BTC dip alert".

What to ask your mail provider for

You need a server that accepts SMTP and then turns on encryption (STARTTLS). Port 587 is the usual port. The form's examples are smtp.gmail.com, port 587, and an app password. A port that expects encryption from the first moment (often 465) will not connect this way. Verify takes about 15 seconds and then shows Failed to send test message.

Apathia connects, turns on STARTTLS, and only then sends the password. If both Username and Password are filled in, it logs in. If either one is empty, it sends without logging in.

Settings

Setting What to enter
Account nickname A name you will recognize. Required. At most 64 characters.
SMTP Host The server, for example smtp.gmail.com.
Port Usually 587. A blank or invalid port is saved as 587.
Username The login name, often your email address.
Password An app password for Gmail and most other providers, not your normal password. The field is masked.
From address The address on the message.
To address Where the alert is delivered.

Click Save Email (SMTP). The form clears and says Saved. The account is listed under the form with Verify and Delete. With none saved, the card says "No Email (SMTP) accounts saved."

Verify sends "Apathia test notification — credentials verified." with the subject Apathia Signal, from that account only. The row says "Verifying…", then Test message sent or Failed to send test message.

Delete asks 'Delete notification account "…"? Its saved details are wiped from disk.' There is no edit: delete the account and add it again. The list never shows the password again.

On a signal

Signals → create or edit a signal. Under Notification methods, check Email. The checkbox appears only after at least one email account is saved. Leave every method unchecked to only log alerts.

A signal does not pick one nickname. Email sends to every email account. One account that fails does not skip the others. The notification counts as sent only when every email account answered in time.

Warnings

  • "Account nickname is required": the nickname was empty.
  • A nickname longer than 64 characters is refused.
  • 'Another email account is also called "…".': another email account uses the same nickname, ignoring capital letters. The account is still saved. The message uses the word email, not the card title.
  • "Failed to send test message": the server refused the connection, the login, or the address, or it did not answer in time. Each send is given 15 seconds. A signal waits 20 seconds for all of the email accounts together.

Good to know

  • The password is stored encrypted. Logs name the account type, the nickname, and the account id, not the password or the addresses.
  • If an account already has two sends still unfinished, a further send to it is skipped. A send still waiting after 60 seconds is not attempted. A signal stops waiting after 20 seconds; a send that has not answered by then counts as not sent. A send that misses that wait can still arrive afterwards, and the log marks it "late".
