Telegram¶
Sends alerts as messages from your own Telegram bot. You need the bot token from @BotFather and the chat ID of the chat or group that should get them.
Settings → Signal Notification Accounts → Telegram. The same page has Discord, Email (SMTP), and a Generic Webhook.
A signal with Telegram checked sends each alert to every Telegram account you have saved. The message is plain text, for example "ENTRY long · okx BTC/USDT 64,210 (touch) · BTC dip alert": the side (ENTRY or EXIT), the direction when the strategy has one, the exchange, the pair, the price, the trigger (touch or close), and the signal's name.
Create the bot and find the chat¶
- In Telegram, open a chat with @BotFather and send
/newbot. Follow the prompts: a name, then a username that ends inbot. - BotFather replies with a token that looks like
123456789:AA…. Paste that into Bot Token. Anyone who has the token can send messages as your bot. - Open a chat with your new bot and tap Start, or add the bot to the group that should get the alerts and send a message there.
- In a browser, open
https://api.telegram.org/bot<token>/getUpdates, with your token right afterbotand no space. In the reply, chat→idis the Chat ID. Paste that number into Chat ID. A group id is negative (it starts with-). - If the page says
"result": [], send another message in that chat and reload. In a group, Telegram's privacy mode (on by default) lets the bot see commands, replies, and mentions, not every message. Send a message that starts with/, or in @BotFather send/setprivacy, pick the bot, and turn privacy off. Then send one more message and reload getUpdates.
Settings¶
| Setting | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Account nickname | A name you will recognize. Required. At most 64 characters. |
| Bot Token | The token from @BotFather. The field is masked. |
| Chat ID | The chat or group id from getUpdates. |
Click Save Telegram. The form clears and says Saved. The account is listed under the form with Verify and Delete. With none saved, the card says "No Telegram accounts saved."
Verify sends "Apathia test notification — credentials verified." to that chat only. The row says "Verifying…", then Test message sent or Failed to send test message.
Delete asks 'Delete notification account "…"? Its saved details are wiped from disk.' There is no edit: delete the account and add it again. The list never shows the token again.
On a signal¶
Signals → create or edit a signal. Under Notification methods, check Telegram. The checkbox appears only after at least one Telegram account is saved. Leave every method unchecked to only log alerts.
A signal does not pick one nickname. Telegram sends to every Telegram account. One account that fails does not skip the others. The notification counts as sent only when every Telegram account answered in time.
Warnings¶
- "Account nickname is required": the nickname was empty.
- A nickname longer than 64 characters is refused.
- 'Another telegram account is also called "…".': another Telegram account uses the same nickname, ignoring capital letters. The account is still saved. The message uses the word
telegram, not the card title. - "Failed to send test message": Telegram did not accept the token or the chat id, or it did not answer in time. Each send is given 15 seconds. A signal waits 20 seconds for all of the Telegram accounts together.
Good to know¶
- The token is stored encrypted. Logs name the account type, the nickname, and the account id, not the token.
- If an account already has two sends still unfinished, a further send to it is skipped. A send still waiting after 60 seconds is not attempted. A signal stops waiting after 20 seconds; a send that has not answered by then counts as not sent. A send that misses that wait can still arrive afterwards, and the log marks it "late".
