Session Opening-Range Breakout¶
What it does: Trades a break of the first 30 minutes' range after a session opens; flat by session end. This marks the high and low of the first 30 minutes after a chosen session open (for example the US stock market open at 13:30 UTC) and buys a break above the high.
Style: Breakout · Difficulty: Advanced · Risk: high · Ready: 0 of 2 variants
When people use it: Session-open volatility.
Markets it was written for: BTC, ETH. Timeframes: 5m-15m.

Coming later
This needs session opening ranges, a feature that's coming. You can read how it will work, but you can't add it to your strategies yet.
Settings
| Setting | Default | Editable | What changing it does |
|---|---|---|---|
| Session open time UTC | 13:30 | No: coming later | When the session starts. Pick a time when your market usually gets busy; a different time changes which range is traded. |
| Range minutes | 30 | No: coming later | How long the opening range lasts. Shorter gives a narrower range that breaks more often (more trades, more false breaks); longer gives a wider, more meaningful range (fewer trades). |
How it works (as shown in the app)
- This marks the high and low of the first 30 minutes after a chosen session open (for example the US stock market open at 13:30 UTC) and buys a break above the high.
- It exits at a 2% target, a 1% stop or at the end of the session.
- It may work around session opens with a burst of volatility.
- Crypto trades around the clock and has no true open, so the idea may not carry over. The evidence is practitioner-level and unverified.
- Rated high risk. Trades on 5- to 15-minute candles, so fees matter.
- Coming later: this version needs session opening-range levels, which Apathia doesn't have yet, so it can't be imported or run today.
Short (perp)¶
Shorts a break below the first 30 minutes' range after a session opens.

How it works (as shown in the app)
- This marks the high and low of the first 30 minutes after a chosen session open (for example the US stock market open at 13:30 UTC) and shorts a break below the low.
- It closes at a 2% target, a 1% stop or at the end of the session.

- Rated high risk. Trades on 5- to 15-minute candles, so fees matter.
- Shorting means you profit if the price falls and lose if it rises.
- Suggested leverage is at most 5x. On isolated margin, at 5x the exchange closes the position (liquidation) if the price moves about 19.6% against you, and you lose the margin you put into it. Keep your stop well inside that.
- Coming later: this version needs session opening-range levels, which Apathia doesn't have yet, so it can't be imported or run today.
Warnings¶
- Some variants suggest leverage. On isolated margin a liquidation loses the margin in that position; keep any stop well inside the liquidation distance (the Trade Builder warns you when it isn't).
Good to know¶
- It can't be added yet, so it can't be backtested or traded. This page shows how it is planned to work; details may change before it ships.
